A
hard frost transforms the garden in January 2003. The frost seems to enkindle new life into dead plant stems and seed heads, and green matter is recreated into something new. This view is down the path towards the lower seating area. |

A hellebore (Helleborus x hybridus), which in ordinary light has leaves, buds and flowers that are almost a dark liquorice colour with the texture of taffeta, becomes dusky maroon when backlit by the sun.
